Life Inside the Music Box

all torn up

Music Box- by Regina Spektor
Life inside the music box ain't easy.
The mallets hit the gears are always turning
and everyone inside the mechanism
is yearning to get out.
And sing another melody completely
So different from the one they're always singing
I close my eyes and think that I have found me
but then I feel mortality surround me.
I want to sing another melody
so different from the one I always sing
But when I do the dishes
I run the water very very very hot
and then I fill the sink to the top with bubbles of soap
and then I send all the bottle caps I own a float
and its the greatest voyage in the history of plastic
and then I slip my hands in and start to make waves
and then I dip my tongue in and take a taste
it tastes like soap but it doesn't really taste like soap
and then I lower in my whole mouth in and take a gulp
and start to feel mortality surround me
I close my eyes and think I've found me
but life inside the music box ain't easy
the mallets hit the gears are always turning
and everyone inside the mechanism
is yearning
to get out
and sing another melody completely
is yearning
to get out
is yearning
to get out
is yearning
to get out

  1. Hey,
I love this song i tried to find it on myspace or youtube but i couldn’t i really wanted it for my profile. So when ever you could put it up i would love to hear it …the whole thing!
    –much love

  2. Aw man! That was a great commercial and I would love to hear the rest. I wonder if she can sing it like that all the time or if she just warbles it differnetly with each performance. Either way, I’m impressed.

  3. Heard this song and KNEW it had to be Regina Spektor, an artist I just love. Beautiful song. Wish they gave credit on Penneys website so more people could enjoy her music. THANKS!

  4. I really like it. Just downloaded it off of Limewire. Thank goodness it was there.

What I’d like to know is where she’s from. She’s got a really different voice… Very nice.

  5. Just love the song but I remember my mother singing it to me as a baby – a beautiful melody though lyrics do not match? Sort of like the “manequines” in the “Twilight Zone.” Anyway, no one has mention the fantastic art about the commercial…how the model gets around in two pieces go unnoticed. The Penny’s commercial is put together very, very well!! Way to go J.C.!
