I love this shawl….

I love this shawl…

  1. Not just because I got all the yarn (except the small row of white) from my first trip to Loop in London.
  2. Not only for the lovely way that the yarn worked together so wondermously.
  3. For the lovely colours which just shout (in a very calm way) I am warm and comforting.
  4. For it calls to your hands. It needs to be touched.
  5. Because I made it and I feel absolutely wonderful when I wear it.

Thanks, again is due to Shimelle for this wonderful prompt which was much of the fun.

untie closeupI saved these ties from the goodwill pile when jon, my husband, decided to ban them from his wardrobe. I knew that I wanted to do something with them, but I had no idea what that might be.

Enter the February Whiplash Challenge- Recycle. I had thought through and even completed a few possibilities when this idea popped into my head while writing morning pages… I wanted to make a yarn-like fabric using the ties. I was so excited that I didn’t want to wait through the rest of my morning pages to get started… but I kept going… I mean this is why I am writing morning pages… no?

I am new to the process of making something into yarn… or something like yarn so it took me several tries until I came up with something that I liked… And here it is… my Un-Tie.

I used a combination of the ties and some black wool that I had in my leftover yarn stash…they came together to make what I think is a very nice scarf. I am already thinking of other fabric that might be rescued and re-purposed into knitting material… Happiness is more stuff to knit with.

**I would like to be considered for the reform school prize as well. Thank you.**

Blue Valentine's Day Socks…

I completed my first pair of socks yesterday… and I am so very happy about that. I started them a million and a half years ago {ok, maybe only a hundred years ago} for jon and yesterday I FINISHED THEM!

I am so happy- I honestly thought that I might never finish them, but here they all in all their glory … and just in time for Valentine’s Day! Yeah!

GB Sweater Closeup
I started this week off in a fairly terrible mood. I was hoping desperately for a snow day and I wanted nothing to do with school… It felt very blah, but it got better. Each day this week it got a little better.

Some highlights of the week include gorgeous, fluffy snow falling from sky on several occasions. It was not enough for a snow day, but I had forgotten how beautiful it is when it snows… and on several magical occasions this week I got to just watch. All of my students were so happy about the snow as well- We had snowball fights abound and a general wonder while looking out the window as it fell. Watching that did wonders for my crappy mood.

Jon was oh so sweet this week- coming to my rescue on several occasions. He knows me so well and can navigate my ups and downs better than me sometimes… and for that I am incredibly grateful.

I manged to paint and play this week… and I managed to *finally* finish the brown and green sweater that I had been working on for 300 million years…. I also finished a shawl that I had been working on for quite a bit. All of that made me quite happy. I even worked some on my never ending socks… that look more like socks each day… we shall see if they ever do turn into proper socks.
So this morning the sky is a pale blue… it looks like it will be cold, but not too cold and I am feeling good. Jon and I have talked about wandering around a bit this weekend. I think we are headed towards East London to play… we shall see.
