Un-Tie

untie closeupI saved these ties from the goodwill pile when jon, my husband, decided to ban them from his wardrobe. I knew that I wanted to do something with them, but I had no idea what that might be.

Enter the February Whiplash Challenge- Recycle. I had thought through and even completed a few possibilities when this idea popped into my head while writing morning pages… I wanted to make a yarn-like fabric using the ties. I was so excited that I didn’t want to wait through the rest of my morning pages to get started… but I kept going… I mean this is why I am writing morning pages… no?

I am new to the process of making something into yarn… or something like yarn so it took me several tries until I came up with something that I liked… And here it is… my Un-Tie.

I used a combination of the ties and some black wool that I had in my leftover yarn stash…they came together to make what I think is a very nice scarf. I am already thinking of other fabric that might be rescued and re-purposed into knitting material… Happiness is more stuff to knit with.
